MONICA

Dear Claudette's Kids Foundation,
Thank you so much for choosing my family for the "Fighting Breast Cancer Through Scholarships". The money that was donated to my family helped to buy presents for my children for Christmas. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in August of 2017 by during my first mammogram. I was a little heisted by having a mammogram and an felt fine health wise with not have a screening done. But I felt like a hypocrite telling people to go to the doctor for check up as a medical social work and me skipping out on my testing. After having the mammogram I was called within 2 days to return another 3D mammogram and the Stefanie Spielman Center. The follow week I had the biopsy and was diagnosed with Invasive Carcinoma grade 3 Stage 1 Breast Cancer.
I was in a lost for words and I received the phone call at work and my co worker thought it would be best to leave for the rest of the day. I finished out my day and told my family the news, which they were in a shock and was telling me that I was taking the news so well. I guess being in the medical field you learn that science has come a long way. I have 2 boys ages 10 and 4 years old and they both were diagnosed with Autism. They both are high functioning and doing well in regular class rooms. My 10 years old understand a little and tries to help out when ever her can and checks on me, which is cute. The 4 year old is just up under me by my side every chance he have even if I don't feel well he will site on the bottom of the bed with me.
I have been a medical social worker for 5 years at Mount Carmel Hospital and I love my job. I miss being at work making others laughs and talking to the patients and making sure they have what they need to discharge home. I will start my last 12 doses of Taxol chemo and then after that radiation of 4 weeks 5 days a week. I will beat Cancer and I want other to know this is a small storm, but in the end God will see you through. I would like to thank the Claudette's Kids Foundation for helping me at a time when I though I had nothing to provide for my kids on Christmas day. I feel blessed that my family was chosen for this Scholarship and I hope other remain to be blessed by The Claudette's kids Foundation.
